This dataset is keyed on the five digit Zip Code value assigned by the US Postal Service and provides the common name of the post office associated with that Zip Code. Typically all zip codes in an incorporated city will have the same name as that of the municipality (e.g. Carlsbad). One exception is that La Jolla has its own post office name even though it is within the City of San Diego. Post offices in unincorporated areas will the common community name. Post office assigned to Zip Codes are determined by the US Postal Service.
