Dataset was created using the fishnet tools for standard grids. It is a standard grid of 20k on a side and has an origin point in Imperial County and Arizona on the south east and extends to the California border on the north west. Each geographic area is unique in name and contains 48 cells in a 6 by 8 cell arrangement with the east west dimension being 160,000 meters and 8 columns, and the north south dimension being 120,000 meters and 6 rows. The purpose of the geographic named 48 cell grid areas are to allow for data driven map pages to be used in any given area. the map units align with UNSG units and can be used in projected maps with a USNG graticule so that field navigation is possible off the grids units.

Data was built in a projected map space of WGS 84 UTM Zone 11S meters WKID 32711.

State GRID using USNG 20 km square cells as the base for a Alpha Numeric grid system to identify specific areas by a geographic name and then a Alpha reference, e.g., San_Francisco A2.
