Service Description: Firearms can be discharged legally in the County of San Diego in specific areas when it is safe and permitted to do so. This map can be used to determine where these areas are. This map can be used in conjunction with the County of San Diego shooting regulations Section 33.101. Significant restrictions apply to shooting near habitations, watering holes, possessing firearms on trails, and shooting during periods of high fire hazard. Please familiarize yourself with the regulation in addition to permitted areas on the map. This map was created to specifically answer the question:
Where may I legally shoot in San Diego County?
The San Diego Sheriff's Department advises there are a number of commercial firearms ranges around San Diego County where you may target shoot. Additionally, in some of the more rural areas of the County, you may be able to shoot on private property with the permission of the property owner. To get a better idea of those areas, you may use this online map or download a Shooting Map in Adobe pdf format. The document containing the map also includes a copy of the shooting regulations from the San Diego County codes. SHOOTING MAP COLOR and NUMBER DELINEATION
Data layer used:
SANGIS.LAW_SHOOTING_REGULATIONS
Red and Gray "Not allowed" - means no firearms; air gun or air rifle may be discharged
except pursuant to a permit issued by the Sheriff establishing a shooting
range, or pursuant to orders/permits issued by fish and game.
Green or Other colored areas - restricted (or "all colors" on the official shooting map) means no firearm may be discharged except;
1) by owner or tenant upon land owned or occupied by such owner or tenant;
2)by a person possessing written permission from the owner or tenant;
3) pursuant to a permit issued by the Sheriff establishing a shooting range.
4) by a person on federal/state lands when permission to hunt game has been
granted.
5) pursuant to depredation orders/permits issued by fish and game.
Areas with no restriction designation (called "White" on the shooting map) are "County regulated shooting" areas. These area requires only that you be a
reasonably safe distance from certain areas to discharge a firearm or airgun.
You also cannot discharge during "High Fire Hazard" periods.
